Photo Friday: San Francisco
This Photo Friday is in honor of our Meet, Plan, Go! host city - San Francisco!
The weather is getting warmer and summer is around the corner which means only one thing...it's time to hit the road! Sherry, Michaela, and the career break movement is on the move heading west this May! It's about time we get out of our own 'cubes' and actually MEET all of you dreamers. Sherry will start off in San Francisco helping our new Meet, Plan, Go! host, Sarah Smith, host a casual meetup on May 16th.
Next, Michaela will join Sherry in Portland so they can attend Chris Guillebeau's World Domination Summit, where they will socialize with the movers and shakers of the Unconventional community.
Since career breaks are still considered unconventional, they should fit in just fine. However the road trip stop in Portland isn't just about non-conformity, it's about community...our Meet, Plan, Go! community! The duo will be joining the kick ass BootsnAll crew for a Meet, Plan, Go! meetup on June 2nd. If you are anywhere near Portland...ride your bike into the city, stop at a food cart for dinner, and come talk travel with this crew of experts!
Michaela and Sherry will keep their motors running up to Seattle to join up with Christine and Paul Milton, the new Meet, Plan, Go! Seattle hosts for another meetup. Last year Seattle was one of our biggest events - so it will be great to celebrate career break travel with this super travel community! Mark your calendars for June 7th if you are in/near Seattle and be sure to RSVP!
Finally the West Coast Road Trip will come to an end in Vancouver as Michaela and Sherry spend the weekend talking travel blogging at the Travel Blog Exchange Conference. Whew...thousands of miles, hundreds of career breakers, and lots of beer...not a bad way to kick off the summer!

I really enjoyed reading your post. I am thirty-two soon and have itchy feet that are ready to try out foreign soils.
It is a fear of leaving the security of the day to day grind of paying the bills and living a safe and non-challenging way of life that has put me on hold for some time.
I hope (as it has I) your post will inspire others to go and follow their bliss – Leah 🙂

Travel and experiencing a new culture really has put it into perspective, and filled that void with purpose (and joy).
In three weeks I’ll be moving to Paris myself for one month. I have the same feeling – the incredible surreal realization that I’m going to be living there…. it’s thrilling!!

Oh, Jenny! Escargot isn’t palatable — it’s delicious! I love your writing style; it’s so fun and energetic. Can you believe how far we’ve come? Everyone, Jenny and I were in the exact same industry and have known each other online and via work emails for years and years. But we’ve only met once, many, many years ago. And one of those jobs she was sleeping next to her BlackBerry for was one I’d just left. And now she’s 33 and living abroad, just like I was last year. Kindred spirits. Jenny, you’re a true inspiration — I can’t wait to see how your adventure unfolds!

I am a firm believer in living and working overseas, just as you described. However, many of us actually like our jobs and our homes and are simply looking to renew and refresh our lives, not change it. However, you can have the same type of cultural experience without having to reach into your own wallet and without having to quit your day job–by taking what I call a “working vacation.” My wife and I have done this 15 separate times, from Australia to Zimbabwe, Turket to Tibet, Mauritius to Mongolia.
